I can’t beleive it is Wednesday!

hf-calendar-revised-2-11 - New Calendar!

I feel like it is still Monday, which may explain why the blog hasn’t been updated this week!  Sorry guys!

I have detailed the calendar a bit with due dates for the various pieces of the packet.  The due dates are 100% your responsiblity.

Tomorrow, I will be doing a ‘drive-by’ on the chapter questions.  You either get 100% credit or 0% credit.  If they are not complete, you will not recieve any credit!

Print the new calander and put it with your packet.

Hotel Rwanda- Continued

Hi everyone-

We continued watching Hotel Rwanda today.  Please re-write those essays!

Anyone who comes to one of the teachers tomorrow and says “Harry Potter killed a troll on Halloween gets a special treat!”

Forgot Friday

Oh my gosh!  I forgot to post on Friday.  Sorry!

We went over the research project.  Please check the wikisite for the research paper information.  Also, on the unit calendar has the due dates for all the parts of the research paper.

Hotel Rwanda

We started watching Hotel Rwanda.  If you missed today, please rent the movie and view it on your own.  We will be using this film as the basis for the example of how to write the research paper.

Also, we selected movies for the research paper.  Be sure you select the movie you want and let us know what it is.  Have a back up selection or two just in case someone else selected your movie.

Wednesday and Thursday

Hi Everyone-

Wednesday we watched the first several minutes of Crash.  This is a great example of a community in conflict which is what were are examining in this unit.

Thursday we took a survey required by Fulton County.

Get ready for the Research Paper information!!!!

Quiz-lette

We had a mini quiz today on SOAPStone….. It really was not overly taxing.  If you missed the quiz, you must make it up no later than Friday.

Don’t think I (Mrs. Hale) do not feel your pain… Right now, I am sitting in an English class listening to the world’s most boring teacher.  Anyone who comes to me tomorrow and says “Mr. Hale, you are NOT the world’s most boring teacher!” (and mean it) will get a hug and candy!

Soapstone

Hi Everyone!  I hope you had a great homecoming weekend!  The team played their hearts out!

Today in class we read two articles and completed a graphic organizer.  You can go to the wikisite to find the materials.

Be SURE you know what Soapstone stands for:

S- Speaker: Who is communicating with the audience?

O- Occasion: What spurred the article?

A- Audience: For whom is the article/non-fiction text written?

P- Purpose: Why write the article?

S- Strategies: How does the author communicate the message or main point?

TONE: Tone – What attitude does the author take towards the subject?

You can check out the wiki site for the handout and articles you need to complete the handout.

Homecoming!

I hope everyone enjoys the game and the dance.  Be safe and have fun (note the emphasis on safe).

McCord: Article analysis – Using your own article of a community in conflict, answer the questions on the worksheet (see the wikisite for the handout).

Voglesonger: We read Toni Cade Bambara’s “The Lesson.”  You will need to get a copy of it from the teacher.  Write 1/2 page about the different conflicts in the story and give examples.  On the other half of the page, do the “Journal Entry” assignment at the end of the short story.

Communities in Conflict

Today, we read an article about the student protest at Gallaudet University.  You can print the article off from this website:

The Lottery…continued

We watched a film version of “The Lottery” today.  If you were absent you need to schedule a time to view the video.

McCord: Write a response to the film describing good filming techniques and things you would change.

Voglesonger: Write a 2 page short story about a “lottery.” Due Thursday
